  • Guide: Installing Proxmox VE 9.2 on Debian 13

In this guide, we will cover how to install Proxmox VE 9.2 directly on top of a fresh Debian 13 (Trixie) installation.

    Prerequisites
    - A server with a fresh installation of Debian 13.
    - Static IP address configured correctly.
    - Root access to the server.

    Step 1: Set Hostname
It is important that your server has a Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN). Edit your /etc/hosts file:
    Bash
    nano /etc/hosts

Ensure the line with your IP looks like the following (replace with your own data):
    192.168.1.100 proxmox.yourdomain.com proxmox

    Step 2: Add Proxmox Repository
Add the official Proxmox GPG key and repository for version 9.x:
    Bash
    echo "deb [arch=amd64] http://download.proxmox.com/debian/pve trixie pve-no-subscription" > /etc/apt/sources.list.d/pve-install-repo.list

    wget https://enterprise.proxmox.com/debia...ase-trixie.gpg -O /etc/apt/trusted.gpg.d/proxmox-release-trixie.gpg

    Step 3: Update System
Now, update the package list and ensure everything is up to date:
    Bash
    apt update && apt full-upgrade

Step 4: Install Proxmox VE 9.2
    Install the Proxmox packages:
    Bash
    apt install proxmox-ve postfix open-iscsi

(During installation, you will be prompted to configure Postfix – select "Internet Site" and use your domain name).

    Step 5: Reboot
After the installation, the server must be rebooted to load the new Proxmox kernel:
    Bash
    reboot

    How to Access the Interface
Once the server has rebooted, you can access the updated web interface via your browser at:

Log in using your root username and password.

Enjoy your new Proxmox setup! If you need help configuring the new features in 9.2, such as the dynamic load balancer or WireGuard SDN, leave a comment below.
