Guide: How to Setup Amnezia VPN (Unblockable Self-Hosted VPN) on Linux

Prerequisites
Step 1: Download the Amnezia Client App
Amnezia works uniquely: you don't install anything on the server via terminal commands. Instead, you download the client dashboard on your personal computer, and it configures the remote server for you over SSH.
Step 2: Connect the App to Your VPS
Step 3: Choose Your Privacy Level & Protocol
Amnezia will ask you what type of VPN deployment you require. For maximum performance and stealth capabilities, choose:
Click Run Setup. The app will spend 2-3 minutes automatically installing Docker, generating cryptographic keys, and hardening the firewall on your VPS.
Step 4: Generate Client Configurations Easily

- The SSH root login details for your VPS
Step 1: Download the Amnezia Client App
Amnezia works uniquely: you don't install anything on the server via terminal commands. Instead, you download the client dashboard on your personal computer, and it configures the remote server for you over SSH.
- Go to the official website or GitHub and download the client app for your operating system.
Step 2: Connect the App to Your VPS
- Open the Amnezia VPN application on your desktop.
- Click on "Set up your own server".
- Enter your server credentials:
- IP Address: Your VPS Public IP
- Username: root
- Password / SSH Key: Your server root password
- Click Connect.
Step 3: Choose Your Privacy Level & Protocol
Amnezia will ask you what type of VPN deployment you require. For maximum performance and stealth capabilities, choose:
- AmneziaWG (Amnezia WireGuard): Keeps the raw speed of WireGuard but alters headers and packet sizes so firewalls cannot identify it as a VPN.
- OpenVPN over Shadowsocks: Wraps your traffic in an encrypted proxy shell. Perfect for bypassing deep packet inspection (DPI).
Click Run Setup. The app will spend 2-3 minutes automatically installing Docker, generating cryptographic keys, and hardening the firewall on your VPS.
Step 4: Generate Client Configurations Easily
Once completed, you are ready to connect instantly from the desktop app. If you want to share the server with friends or connect your mobile device:
- Go to the app settings and click "Share Connection".
- Select the specific profile protocol.
- It will generate a config code or a QR code that can be imported directly into the mobile Amnezia app.
